Why there is no version history in Claude
- Chat artifacts have none to open. Claude's help center describes no version history for chat artifacts. Editing an earlier message only branches the chat into a different version of the conversation.
- The menu went missing. Users report that the Version history option disappeared from claude.ai, the Claude desktop app, and Claude Code artifacts in September 2026. An open bug report has no reply from Anthropic yet.
- Saved, but out of reach. The same reports say earlier versions are still being saved, but there is no way to open or restore them.
- Regenerating replaces the work. Ask Claude to redo an artifact and the new one takes the old one's place. Asking again rarely brings back the version you liked.

Does Claude have version history for artifacts?

Can I get an older version of a Claude artifact back?
Only if it is still in the chat. You can scroll back and copy it, or ask Claude to recreate it, but there is no version list to restore from. On DocStash every version stays one click away.
