If your team shares work made with Claude, sooner or later someone asks who changed this and who has seen it. Claude does keep records of artifacts, but only on the Enterprise plan, and only for the organization's owners. Here is what Claude records, where the gaps are, and what DocStash shows on every page.
What Claude records
- Audit log exports. On Enterprise, owners can export a CSV of the last 180 days from the organization settings. The download link arrives by email and works for 24 hours.
- The Compliance API activity feed. Also Enterprise only, it lists artifact events such as created, published, viewed, sharing changed, copied, commented on, and invites sent or accepted. Records are kept for six years.
- Every version, for compliance. The Compliance API can fetch the content of each artifact version, so a security team can pull up exactly what was shared.
What it leaves out
- Most plans get nothing. Free, Pro, Max, and Team have no audit log export and no activity feed.
- It doesn't say which agent did it. Actors are logged as people, API keys, or the system. Anthropic notes that work done on someone's behalf can show up as that person.
- A view is not a person reading. Anthropic says a viewed event means a Claude app loaded the content. Loads are not de-duplicated, and counts vary by platform.
- It lives with admins, not the team. The record is an export or an API, not something the people working on an artifact can open next to it.
DocStash keeps a history on every page
DocStash is a home for the pages and docs your AI makes, with the record built in. Instead of an export only admins can run, every page carries its own history that your whole workspace can open, on every plan.
- A history on every page, on every plan. Each page's Activity lists every version with the person who made it, the agent they used, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor, and the agent's note on what changed.
- Every action, not just edits. Activity also shows renames, who was given access and who lost it, publishing and unpublishing, downloads, link preview updates, trash and restore, and reverts.
- The full trail for security. Every action also goes into an organization audit trail that holds no document content. Your security team can get the complete history on request.
- Signed-in viewers, by name. Every time someone signed in opens a page, in DocStash, on its public link, or inside an AI agent like Claude or ChatGPT, it's logged with who it was, when, which version they saw, where they opened it, which agent and connection, a shortened IP address, and their browser. It's part of the audit trail your security team can get on request.
- Anonymous viewers, as numbers. Visitors to a published link aren't named. Analytics on Pro shows views, unique visitors, people viewing right now, country, device, operating system, browser, referrer, and which version and which shared link they opened. Unique visitors come from a daily-rotating hash, so no IP address is ever stored, bots are filtered out, and your own team's views are left out.
- Roll back from the record. Open any version in Activity and restore it in one click. The restore shows up in Activity too.
Get a history for your Claude work
- and follow the quick setup. No coding, no keys.
- Ask Claude to stash it. Say "stash this to DocStash". You get one link like
docstash.ai/<slug>, private until you share it, and every stash becomes a version with your name and Claude next to it. - Open Activity. On the page, open Activity to see every version and every action. Pick a version to view it or restore it.
FAQ
Does Claude have an audit log for artifacts?
Yes, on the Enterprise plan. Owners can export audit logs and use the Compliance API activity feed, which includes artifact events. The other plans get neither.
Can I see who viewed my Claude artifact?
Only through the Enterprise Compliance API, and Anthropic says a view there means a Claude app loaded the content, not that a person read it. DocStash logs every signed-in view by name, in DocStash or inside an AI agent, and analytics on Pro shows views and unique visitors for published pages.
Does the Claude audit log show which AI agent made a change?
No. Claude logs people, API keys, and the system as actors. DocStash records the agent behind every version, so you can see whether a change came from Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex.
How long does Claude keep audit logs?
Audit log exports cover the last 180 days. Compliance API activity records are kept for six years.
Who can see a page's history on DocStash?
Everyone in your workspace sees every page's Activity, right next to the page itself. No export or admin request needed.
