For a long time, using MCP with Gemini meant the Gemini CLI. The Gemini web and mobile apps had no way to add your own tools. That has changed. The Gemini app now supports custom connected apps. Paste an MCP server URL, sign in, and Gemini can use that server's tools in any chat. Here is what changed, who can use it, and what you can build with it.
What changed
- Custom connected apps. In Settings, under Connected Apps, you can now add a custom app by its MCP server URL. Gemini runs the sign-in for you.
- Web to set up, mobile to use. You add a custom app on gemini.google.com. Once connected, it works in the Gemini mobile app too.
- Pick it in any chat. Type
@and choose the app to make sure Gemini uses it. Gemini asks you to confirm before any action that writes data.
Who can use it
You add custom connected apps on the web at gemini.google.com, and they then work in the Gemini mobile app too. Google is still rolling the feature out, so where you find it can vary by account. If Connected Apps isn't in Settings, look under Personal Intelligence. The server has to follow the standard MCP specification.
What connected apps already do
Gemini's built-in Google Workspace app shows the idea. In any chat you can ask it to:
- Summarize the latest Gmail thread with a client.
- Find a doc or sheet in Drive and pull out the key numbers.
- Add a meeting to Calendar from what you just discussed.
Custom apps bring the same thing to tools outside Google.
What you can do with it, starting with saving what Gemini builds
The first thing worth connecting is a place for Gemini's work to live. Connect DocStash and Gemini can save what it builds in Canvas, pages, apps, docs, to one link. It stays private until you publish it, keeps every version, stays out of Google, and can live on your own domain. And because DocStash speaks MCP to every agent, Claude, ChatGPT and the rest can pick up the same doc.

- Share it. Click Publish for a public link, or share it with specific people.
Add DocStash as a custom connector
- Open Connected Apps. On gemini.google.com, open Settings, then Connected Apps. If you don't see it, open Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps.
- Add a custom app. Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app and paste the DocStash MCP URL. The button below has it.
- Sign in. Click Next and sign in to DocStash when prompted.
- Use it. In a chat, type
@, pick DocStash, and ask Gemini to save a Canvas or create a page.
FAQ
Does Gemini support MCP?
Yes. The Gemini app supports custom connected apps through MCP server URLs, and the Gemini CLI supports MCP servers too.
Why don't I see Connected Apps or custom apps?
Look under Settings, then Connected Apps, or under Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps, on gemini.google.com. Google is still rolling custom apps out, so they can show up in a different place, or later, for some accounts.
Can I add a custom connector on my phone?
You add it on the web at gemini.google.com. After that, it works in the Gemini mobile app too.
Is it safe to connect a custom app?
Only connect servers you trust. Google doesn't vet third-party MCP servers, and Gemini asks you to confirm before any action that writes data. DocStash keeps everything private until you choose to publish.
What can I do with DocStash connected?
Save what Gemini builds to one link, publish it or share it with specific people, keep every version, put it on your own domain, and pick it up from any other agent.
Connect Gemini to DocStash
Add DocStash as a custom connector and give everything Gemini builds a home.
