Why Muse  won't let you share or publish right now

3 min read

TLDR

  • If Muse says "This artifact can't be shared right now", nothing is wrong with your artifact or account. Meta paused sharing in Muse for everyone on October 20, 2026.
  • Researchers found more than 6,800 shared Muse pages listed in public DNS records, because each share's web address carried the conversation title.
  • DocStash can host a Muse artifact at one link that stays private until you publish it, with no title in the address.

You built something in Muse and you're unable to publish it. Hitting share gives "This artifact can't be shared right now", the publish option isn't there, or a link you shared earlier no longer opens. It isn't your artifact, your browser or your account. Meta has paused sharing in Muse for everyone. Here is what happened, and how to share what Muse makes on DocStash.

Unable to publish a Muse artifact? What "This artifact can't be shared right now" means

  • Sharing is off for everyone. Meta paused share links in Muse on October 20, 2026, so every share or publish attempt fails, whatever the artifact.
  • Retrying won't help. Signing out, switching browsers or rebuilding the artifact changes nothing until Meta turns sharing back on.
  • Old links are off too. Pages you shared earlier no longer open, so links you already sent people now fail.
  • Your artifacts are safe. Private Muse conversations and the artifacts in them are untouched. Only sharing is paused.

Why Meta paused Muse sharing

  • Shared pages were findable. Security firm Claroc found more than 6,800 Muse share addresses in passive DNS records, which log the web addresses people look up (Cybersecurity News).
  • Some held real work. Most pages were ordinary. The ones researchers opened also included a loan application, financial reports and a staff vacation calendar.
  • Only shared pages. The problem covered pages people chose to share, not private Muse conversations.
  • The timeline. Claroc reported the issue to Meta on October 8. Meta paused sharing on October 20 while it reviews how share links can be discovered, and has not given a date for its return.

Why the links leaked

Each Muse share got its own web address, built from the conversation title plus a random code. The random code made the address hard to guess. But every time someone opened a share, their computer looked the address up, and services that record those lookups kept it. A hard-to-guess address is not a private page. Once the address lands in a log, anyone reading the log can open the page.

How a DocStash link is different

  • Private until you publish. A saved doc opens only for you, your workspace members and the people you invite.
  • No title in the link. A DocStash link is docstash.ai/<slug>, a short random code. The address says nothing about the doc.
  • Public is a choice. Click Publish to let anyone with the link open the doc, and unpublish it whenever you want.
  • A known link is not enough. If a private doc's link turns up somewhere, the doc still opens only for the people with access.
  • Interactive pages run sealed off. Your page runs in an isolated sandbox at a separate address that has nothing in common with the link or the title. That address can't be traced back to the doc, and opened on its own it shows nothing.

FAQ

Why does Muse say "This artifact can't be shared right now"?

Meta paused sharing in Muse on October 20, 2026, after researchers found shared pages listed in public DNS records. The message appears for every artifact.

Why is the Muse share or publish button not working?

Sharing is paused for all Muse users, so every share and publish button fails. Nothing about your artifact, browser or account is causing it.

When will Muse sharing come back?

Meta has not given a date. Meta said sharing is paused while it reviews the report and how share links can be discovered.

Do my old Muse share links still work?

No. Meta turned the share pages off when it paused sharing. Records of the old addresses, titles included, can still sit in DNS history.

Were my private Muse chats exposed?

The research covered pages people chose to share. Private Muse conversations were not part of it.

How can I still share a Muse artifact?

Connect Muse to DocStash and ask it to stash the artifact. You get one link that stays private until you publish it, and you decide who can open it.

Why am I unable to publish my Muse artifact?

Muse makes an artifact public through a share link, and Meta has paused share links for every user. Your artifact is fine. It can't get a public link until Meta turns sharing back on.

Why is my Muse share link not working?

Meta turned off existing share pages when it paused sharing on October 20, 2026, so links shared before then no longer open for anyone.

Is Meta Muse sharing down or disabled?

Disabled on purpose, not down. Meta paused it while it reviews how share links can be discovered, and it applies to everyone.
